These skies aren't so friendly.
December 4, 2009 - When Ace Combat was announced for the iPhone, my ears perked right up. It's one of my favorite game series, period, but I was a bit worried about how it would transition to the iPhone. Naturally, I assumed some concessions would have to be made, and while the port certainly has some shortcomings, they are not where I expected them to be. The gameplay is absolutely rock solid – it manages to stay true to what makes Ace Combat so great, but sadly, the game far too short.
In Ace Combat Xi, players once again take the role of a pilot in a war that's started by an malevolent neighboring nation and it's up to you to single-handedly determine the outcome of this conflict. The tilt controls make the game a delight to play. Namco managed to recreate the precise controls of the console versions. While other games like Top Gun opted to go on-rail, Ace Combat keeps the freedom to go anywhere in order to shoot down anyone foolish enough to assault your homeland. The game also mimics both novice and normal controls found on the console versions nicely, providing a control scheme that anyone to get used to. This gives Ace Combat Xi broad appeal.
